Goleta Watersheds Program and Coastal Resource Information Center

SBUCC is excited to close out 2025 and begin 2026 with expanded education and outreach programs in the City of Goleta. Goleta's watersheds have been integral to SBUCC's work ever since our organization first formed- an incident of unpermitted bulldozing in San Jose Creek in 1987 was one of the events that led our founders to realize the need for an organization that promoted community-led creek protection and restoration.
As many local residents know, Goleta is closely connected to its water resources as it exists within the vibrant Goleta Slough ecosystem - once a thriving Chumash village that later became a port of call for sailing ships. Once filled, it became a site for the current airport which is still surrounded by the slough. With multiple creeks feeding this estuary along the coastline, there is ample need for stewardship to help promote clean and healthy creeks to support habitat and create a safe and aesthetic haven for communities to enjoy.
SBUCC's Goleta Watersheds Program includes education, volunteerism, and conservation elements with a focus on engaging Goleta community members in the stewardship of their nearby creeks. Stop by our Coastal Resource Information Center (email us at info@sburbancreeks.org to schedule a time) or explore our online resources to learn more about your local creeks and how you can help care for them, and stay tuned for special events like creek tours, volunteer creek cleanup days, and more!
